Thanks all.

Kev, I've reviewed my 52 and I can't disagree with you. I know I'm a handsome chap, but I need to broaden my horizons (y) Trouble is, my face is always with me...so easy to photograph

Sometimes the obvious is easier :bonk: I've spend a few hours this morning messing with lazers/mirrors/flash/water spray/smoke trying to get the light from the lazer change directon with no luck - I don't have a prism unfortunelty.

Jackie's been looking at me as if I'm a complete loony

Anyway, I have a few other ideas, but it's pi**ing it down in Leeds....MUST NOT PHOTOGRAPH SELF.....:D

Cheers all.

Andy... what you need is a prism...

don't they always... boys and their toys....

throwing it down here... i was supposed to go out and do some multiple flash work with my daughter for her course at school... no chance... i was willing to send her out there... but my gear... nooo, we'll shoot from inside the doorway... obviously neither of us got anything done...

Well, here's my first take on direction. Hand held because I couldn't manage to set the tripod up in our tiny bathroom as a consequence, ISO 1600, so loads of noise. Looks quite OOF but I think that's because of the water movement... and f3.2 as well to get a decent shutter spped of 1/250th; if I went slower, camera shake, if I went faster the water froze and I wanted motion in the direction of the water.

Overall, I'm happy. I had the crop in mind before I made the photograph.

If anyone has any tips for improving I'd welcome them. Especially if I would have used flash in any way (y)

I have another idea that could work or may not translate into a photograph and another one that I need to take when I go to work.

Cheers all...

Ahh ha...found you finally , knew you wouldn't be able to resist...my god theres some threads to get through :bonk:

So, the 1st week of torture...had the same idea but didn't end up shooting it....so good idea to start . You've already mentioned the noise & looking oof...my initial idea was tripod, ISO trial & error & as high a shutter speed as the bathroom light(natural) would allow...wanted to freeze the motion rather than blur to capture the swirl as the water goes down....might have to try it & see if it works .

Roll on next weekend...see you here again (y)

Hi Andy, that has worked really well, certainly on theme. I like how you have got the water in a "mid" state, Not frozen in action and not too blurred.

Thanks, not easy...:D

Nice take on the theme, great minds think a like.

Indeed, I prefer the colours in yours but the composition in mine ;)

Aside from the noise I like this due to the positioning of the plughole in the picture.

Cheers.

I thought I'd struggle with the new 52...how wrong I was. I've done 4 more and have one more to photograph :bonk:

Thanks for the comments. (y)

Hi Andy,

I like the thinking behind this shot.
If you wanted some motion blur then flash wasn't the option, it would have froze the motion
However, if you try it again, try bouncing the flash off some reflective material back into the sink.

Alternatively, how about setting up a spot lamp on to the sink.
You'd need rubber shoes due to electric and water, but the continuous light wouldn't freeze the motion. Rather than shining the light direct in to the water, diffuse it or bounce it off something.

I'm now subscribed, so keep you mug out of the shots, I've still not recovered from your 2011 52.

I thought the same while trugging in the mud around YSP this afternoon, at least about the lamp.

My face will not feature in any of this year's 52...(y)

Hi Andy i like the idea, and an interesting take on the theme

Well, my head has been reeling with Direction all day :puke:

I won't be posting my laser attempts for Direction because they didn't quite work :bonk:, but I've uploaded them to my Flickr account.

Well, here's 2 more, both taken at YSP (Linky) today.

#1, saw the tree and the direction of the shadow and knew I had to photograph it.

#2 is a winding staircase in the 'Basket #7'(Linky) .

One more in mind that, weather permitting, I will try and photograph it this week.

I can't decide between the plug hole and spiral staircase.

I was wondering if whether putting food colouring into the water would show the movement even more though you'd have to be careful about which colours you use!!

All three are a great and its good to see such variety!

Now Andy....posting more than one shot at your calibre is just showing indecision on which to submit....you see the 52 as that walk of shame to the teacher whose called you up to show the class your work.... Now stop posting good photos else you'll steal all the good ideas...

Nice colours in #1.

Some lengths people go to for pictures, must have taken you ages to push that tree over Andy.

The radio weather people keep saying its going to be nasty weather for a couple of days, hoping its ok for Thursday.

Jackie and Isabelle come in handy sometimes....:D

Weather is showing as sunny for Thursday (y)

2 lovely pics there ANdy, looks like you had some great light on your side.

It was a great day and a stunning location. Linky.

Thanks, food colour is a good idea if I reshoot at some point.

I know what I prefer but the more C&C I can get the better.

'Stealing all the good ideas...'...members can always emulate what I've posted (y)

I like how you've cropped #1 Andy but #3 is the stand out for me. I like the industrial feel to it and who my eye goes down the stairwell.

Thanks, composition is one areas that I feel is my strongest....just got to work on the rest of my weaker areas :puke:

Nice one Andy, three good takes. Like the final one the best though, nice POV.

Look forward to your 52(x3) (y)

Cheers. Hoping to photograph number 3 this week sometime.

spiral staircase for me love the colour and the contrast of the shadows

I do like this one. Looks much better on my laptop - Flickr has sucked some of the colour out.

Thanks all.

Thanks for posting the link Andy. Just checked google maps and it is only 58 minutes from me. Will have to give it a whirl some time.

Get yourself across there...it's an amazing place. Give yourself a full day...and I mean, arrive at opening and leave when you get kicked out...(y)

I'm looking to arrange a meet May time.

Hello Andy,

I like the spiral staircase a lot, because of the industrial feel, the lines and the colours.

Thanks, no real forethought...just happened across it.

Cheers.

Fancy a trip there myself...I'll keep an eye out for your meet thread...tis only 20 mins from home:)

Love the staircase shot...great colors & good spot on the tree...different take but works well

Sooo..how many images for week 2 ??

Three good photographs there Andy but I will go for the spiral staircase one too (y) As has been said already, it has a nice depth to the image, good to see a colour version, some may be tempted to go for a B&W conversion on this subject.
As I have said in other threads who posted a few images for the theme, with your work rate this 52 will turn into a 104 or in your case 156. Good luck. Iain

Three great shots, the standout for me is the staircase, such depth of colour and great light in the shot. (y)

Week 2....well...more than one photograph, I suspect. Come on Saturday. Blooming tireing commenting on all the 52s (but great to see so much interest! (y))

Cheers...I actually have scribbled on my left hand, "Do spiral staircase in B&W"!

I'll do it tonight.

Can't wait for tomorrow's new theme (y)

Ooh yes, that looks great!
