    Help with editing an image

Ok, cheers everyone for the suggestions. These are techniques I'll have to try out for myself. I agree the eyes look a bit too sharp, I only tried to add a touch of pop but seems I went OTT :) Anyway, here's the original version without the sharpening...

    Help with editing an image

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12561379@N00/6107106404/ Can anyone help (or suggest how to) retouch this image? I need to improve the overall vibrancy (saturation and contrast in particular) but a large area of the forehead (and an area off to the right) is blown and overexposed. I am coming...

Is an 'eye for a good photo' something you can learn?

A little late, but my two cents worth... :) I definitely believe some people 'have an eye for taking a good photo.' Rather than a predetermined instinct, I think it's more of an ability acquired through experience and influence. In my opinion, some people are able to visualise and capture...

    Canon 28mm f2.8

I was recently deliberating over the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Canon 28mm 1.8. The deciding factor for me was the AF speed, so I had to go with the Canon lens. Can't comment first hand on the Siggy's AF performance but the USM on my 28mm Canon is truly beautiful. I honestly thought it wasn't...

    Aperture basic quesion

Hi Rob, I assume when you say "max aperture" you mean highest f number, so you're not missing anything. The higher the f number, the smaller the aperture and the greater the depth of field (i.e. more of the shot in focus)... and vice versa with smaller f numbers. However, there is more...

    Something Different!!

Yes, I could see this having greater impact with the effect inverted. Paul - any chance you could make this amendment and re-post?

    Something Different!!

Not sure I can offer much in the way of critique, but am curious to know what this effect is called (if it has a name) and how it was achieved. I think it's fun, quirky, as you say - different! Reminds me of the groundbreaking A-ha video for the song 'Take On Me' :D with its combination of...

Now this is an interesting building!

Not at all Ricardo, these shots really take me back to one of my most treasured holidays. They conjure up some lovely memories of Casa Batllo, so thanks for posting! :) Barcelona is a great place.

Now this is an interesting building!

Immediately when I saw the opening shots in this thread, Gaudi sprang to mind. He had a very distinctive and instantly recognisable style. Sadly I didn't go into the Sagrada Familia when I visited Barcelona a few years ago, but I absolutely adored La Casa Batllo  That is an awesome place...

    Snail Shell

Have to agree, it works much better with selective colouring. It's personal preference of course, but I still don't think having the main subject in centre frame works too well.

    Darlington Station

Some nice shots there, mumrar... and what an amazing story regarding the reunion of father and son in #6

    Smokin.....

These are flippin' lovely shots, and joyous to look at! My favourite is #2, with #1 a close second. Not sure about the suggested crop with #2 as the incense tip does add a bit of context. But then, maybe it would work better as an abstract image after a crop. Can't make up my mind...

    Snail Shell

The colour-popping seems to work quite well in this shot, in my opinion, although it would be good to compare the same shot in full natural colour. For me, maybe a slightly different composition would improve it, but I love the contrast in this image. :)

    Haymaking

For some reason I can't see any image in your original post  but looking at the processed version I think the power lines and pylon actually add to the composition rather than detracting from the main subject. I agree with the previous comments about perhaps choosing a lower perspective...

    Auto portrait

There may also be an option within Windows Viewer to batch-rotate your images (i.e. by selecting the relevant photos and then applying the rotation). Admittedly it's not as nice as having them auto-rotate, but it makes things a tad easier until you get software that recognises the in-camera...
