Ah that makes sense. I'd never be able to hold a 600mm, but because you mentioned IS I thought you must be handholding.
Well I'm not sure if that's what you'd call it, but I've set the usual Af-On button to back button focus C-Af, and then I've set the * button to Eye-Af. I've set the third button up to change the shape/size of the focus points (jury still out on this one). I can use my thumb to quickly change between C-Af and Eye-Af. I've put the animal/people eye Af setting into my favourites menu so hopefully set that up beforehand. So far I'm loving this set up though I have accidentally changed the focus point shape a couple of times.
It's not too heavy to hold for short bursts. Good idea on use of the buttons, I may give that a try. I'm using the R5 for events and wildlife so it's pretty much always in continuous eye AF mode people/animal.
