Hi Peter,

I think both Letter and Contrast are great interpretations of the themes and I can't really add anything to what's already been said. I will say though; after Sweet, Contrast is my favourite of your submissions so far.
 
Here's this week's entry for agate. Another one that was tricky to set up but more enjoyable than last week. I just love the patterns that a macro lens with a full set of extension tubes can find in this slice of agate I bought specially for the theme.

Hi Peter

Letter - good composition and lovely colours. Has a real old fashioned feel to it. I like the focus, and the highlights on the other keys add vibrancy

Contrast - good imagination and well executed. No problem on my monitor with the blacks in the first one. I echo the thoughts about the 60s b &w Mary Quant dresses and it has a similar feel to some of the flyers put out when the musical Chess came out. :thumbs:

Mineral - beautiful colours and the detail around the edges really stands out in the larger size image. good capture of the translucency of the material - it could even be liquid in part. Although I am not sure about the lack of a boundary to the right - can't make up my mind whether it would be better with a proper edge rather than just flowing away.

My initial thoughts as well.

Cracking colours in the edge of the agate. Overall detail and exposure is great. I also like the rings near the border of the agate.

I know what you both mean about the edge. I took quite a few different shots showing different parts of the subject. I picked this agate for the patterns in the middle of the stone but it was the lines around the edge that attracted me once I'd got in close. I did initially cut out some black card to act as a background around the agate but in the end felt it didn't work as well as the white.

I have plans to make me an under-lit table thingy :)

Thanks Michael and Bob. The head is sharp but maybe looks a bit off due to the lighting as I needed to accentuate the pointy ears against the background.
 
Mineral - I can't fault it Peter, well lit, composed and captured. Great detail in the subject, it has a real fresh look to it, maybe because it looks like an orange slice to me which gives it a different dimension IMHO

Dark - A fun take on the theme, I like the negative space you've got here. I think a more even light on the figure would help it along. I dont know if that was possible but perhaps a more circular light to put the figure in the spotlight so to speak. I find the light by the right leg of the figure a little distracting. Iain

Iain - I know what you mean about the circle of light. I did try that using a torch with a wound up sheet of paper as a make shift snoot but it didn't quite work out.
 
The dark night well done there bit worried about the traumatised child :lol:
Agree with the comment about the spotlight especially if that spotlight was the bat light, I like the way the yellow stands out too :thumbs:

Like the isolation and the yellow really pops. Sharpness, as you say, isn't an issue, just the flash, I suspect, has softened the face.

You should have evened the light by making a miniature snoot :lol:

Thanks Andy. As said above I did make a snoot out of a piece of rolled up paper.

Contrast - DAMN... very nicely done :clap: I'm presuming not done pp but painstakingly staged ?? The curves of the glass compliment the lines not being dead straight, again not sure if that is an illusion created by the glass

Mineral - DAMN AGAIN... I know I should have done all my shots before I caught up on comments, from what I have seen so far some excellent shots to come even close too - real good lighting/details acheived

Dark - I want... my phone call. I want it. I want it! I want my phone call!

Time - Mmmm eggy soldiers - 'cracking' take on the theme, again liking the lighting and a good angle
 
One of the first things that came to my mind (for this week's theme, I mean)) was an egg-timer! Alas, I don't possess one! So glad that somebody else has done one!

So nice shot and spot on for the theme. Eggcellent work!

I actually went shopping for the egg timer on Saturday but could only find this rather sad one although it was only £1. I'll let you off for the bad pun.
 
Nice take on the theme and nice composition points removed for no butter on your toast shame on you ;)

Dark - Good shot and like the amount of dead space which makes it work
Time - Again, a shot that works. Like the composition.
 
Dark, I think most comments have been made. For me the face seems a little bright:thinking: I like the empty space though and fits the theme well:thumbs:

Time, I looked at this before reading it I was thinking time as in a three minute egg or along those lines, but breakfast time works for me too and I like the composition.

Well exposed, nice and sharp with good colours. Well composed. I wasn't sure about the part hidden spoon but unsure if another placement would improve :thinking:

Hmmmm, think I'd like a more minimal approach by removing the egg timer, integral though it may be.
