This is the place to discuss the themes, why you decided to go for it, for another year, generally chew the fat, have the odd tipple and socialise with your fellow 52'ers.
So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair and enjoy yourselves (y)

Short cuts
Weekly themes will be announced here

One last thing, Dean (@Dark Knight ) pointed out to me that there are 53 Fridays in 2016,
As the last one is 30th December it will be the theme for Jan 2017.
But that's ages away, so lets not worry about that eh? :D

Well I hope to have a smoother 2016 with any luck, not that it could get more hectic than 2015 !!!

One thing, as always that I wish to change is commenting, still very hard to keep up with all threads, especially at the start of the year, @posiview had a good plan this year, but don't think it happened...

@posiview had a good plan this year, but don't think it happened...
Not sure what that was?
But as I said before if we can at least reciprocate, hopefully no one will be left out "in the cold" (y)

something like that anyway :D
Ah Ok yes I do remeber something like that now, it seemed a good idea at the time I guess :D

, its the one thread where I feel at ease ....everywhere else scares me to death :D
Have you forgotten who's in charge this year? :p

But yes I agree, its nice and peaceful in here, and polite too (y)
I also come in here to "escape" , you're not alone :)

I'm going to give it another go for 2016. Not sure any one remembers but i gave it ago in 2014 and got about half way i think.
You are duly added (y)

... thinking of dropping out to give others a chance.

I think Andy's 'plan b' was to pick his fav of the bunch of images posted by somebody if he got behind, but making sure he gave good feedback to all at least once a month... something like that anyway :D

In the end I think Andy managed to comment on virtually all

Yeah that didn't happen. Been a little slack lately but I really do believe quality crit, or lack of, is one factor in members withdrawing....on the flip side members feeling pressure to comment on all submissions. Not a easy balance.

Cheers.

I did struggle to comment on more than a couple each week. Is there no way we can have a random draw and each get assigned a person to comment on that week. No one gets missed out that way, of course you can comment on more if you want as well.

sounds like idea but difficult to implement, possibly if tight for time just comment on the thread with least replies... Not sure how that would level things out ??

unless they have few replies as they never acknowledge comments left or reply in return... Difficult:thinking:

Most of the time, for most of the photos on TP, not just 52's, I simply don't feel qualified to comment in a meaningful way. If something stands out as being particularly good I will say so, otherwise I tend to keep quiet. I also assume that if no one comments on my photos then it is down to mediocrity, for want of a better word, i.e. nothing really good, nothing bad. Obviously receiving comments is rewarding but I am in this to make me push the boundaries of what I photograph and how.

I suppose what I am saying is I would often be uncomfortable if I was required to comment and my comments might not be very useful. TBH I might not have signed up if I thought commenting was going to be a requirement.

commenting is required Chris, but do not let it scare you, a simple 'I like that especially the look on that donkeys face' is more than suitable, just what you may like or do not understand OR to ask how an effect was achieved :)

hope that makes sense ??

If you don't feel qualified to offer critique, just offer some encouragement as Dean was saying (y)

I thought Dean @Dark Knight was going to volunteer to manage the spreadsheet for this idea ;)
He's got nothing better to do :D

TBH I think it'd probably fall flat on its face after awhile, a few are bound to drop out or go missing for awhile ( yep guilty as charged on the latter)

OK ... thanks for the gentle (baseball bat) persuasion, I'm now totally convinced TP52ers 2016 is for me.
Of course it is, there was never any real doubt was there? :D

Hmmm! I can see both sides of the argument about commenting. I think it is a very important part of personal development; shame if people like receiving but don't return the interest. What if comment submissions could be made anonymously as an option - would that work?

commenting doesn't really have to worry anyone, just look at the picture, if there is anything you would change just say so. The 52 for me has been about improving the pictures I take. Commenting and critique shouldn't be all or end all of it .Taking on board everones comments over the last 5 years of this project, I would like to think I have improved. I may well struggle with commenting myself, I work unpredictable hours, suddnly going in to 12 hour shifts, so time is not on myside. I will do so when I can. Its an enjoyable project, some will find it easy and some hard, but stick with it and finish and you will have something to show at the end of it. Enjoy it and snap away however you choose to approach the project. :snaphappy::pics:

Not sure about that Carl, I think it's the fact that we get to know one another that makes the thread. I agree it's important, I understand people can't comment on all every week but to virtually never comment at all seems to defeat the object for me. Also just an acknowledgement of a comment placed is nice even if it's just to press the like button as a thank you, someone has after all given up their time to write it. I think I've learnt a lot by commenting, I was really scared at first but I hope I've learnt to look at the shots more objectively as I've gone along. Although we moan about the topics it is a fun thread and I hope everyone joining in enjoys it as much as I do.

I couldn't agree more Susie, on both of those points (y)
As I keep saying, Its great if people can at least reciprocate a comment, as we mostly wouldn't have time to comment on all threads.
(I know there are a few out that giving it a hell of a try though, and to those I say (y) )

To those that are not confident, in commenting, just say what you like, or if not, what you don't. We are all big boys and girls, no one is going to take the latter to heart.
And like wise, there are some very experienced and excellent photographers in here, take on board what they say, they are only trying to help you improve (y)

Although we moan about the topics
And don't I know it :D

I'm not good at commenting, as I'm not good at typing, typing reams of comment worth reading .... so I keep it brief. It means I manage to comment on 90+% of what's submitted. If you're happy with that then click the LIKE button below. :D

This is not face book nor is it a point scoring exercise :p

 for your effort! I was also scared like you @susiejb but since everyone was so nice, I became braver, and now, I'm addicted to this forum  It's the first thing I open when visiting my browser (move away, google)

Right I must be completely mad especially after not even making it halfway this year but I'm going to give it another go. And one of my reasons for this is I am planning on trying to achieve the PAGB later next year so hopefully the fed back I gain form this will help me achieve it.

I may also get my brother involved as he has just brought a Nikon P900 so needs to get some use out of!!
