weekly DK's 52 in 2014 - Wk's 52 'Support' Added - AND FINISHED :)

Thanks David :)

Thanks Iain :)
Thanks again Iain :) Am I correct in thinking you got some images from here too ??
Hahaaaa cheers Mister

Yes I got some shots of that very scene, haven't done anything with them yet.
I need to revisit my images from Wales, just haven't got around to it yet

Right before I post my last catch up shot here is my first shot for this weeks theme...

I hope to get some different shots for this as it's a tad too basic, I think it works fine but would like to get something else if I can.

My Son turned 16 on Monday and with some of his birthday splashed out in Makro on 3kg of Haribo Fried Eggs (Trust me 3kg of fried eggs is a LOT of sweets... the image I have taken is probably the last 1/3 of them)

My first image here is what I was after, a sea of fried eggs, low perspective, oof foreground leading to continuous eggs, i'm not too sure if it works, I'm thinking the oof foreground is a tad too deep

These are certainly best seen large on Flickr... thanks for visiting :)

Wk 26 - YUM 2 by TP DK, on Flickr

My second shot and possibly my now prefered shot is a tighter crop of my initial shot, removing a chunk of the Out Of Focus foreground - Your opinion would be appreciated :)

Wk 26 - YUM by TP DK, on Flickr

Yep, cropped version to remove the OOF front, nothing is a single Point of Interest, so having a shallow DOF does nothing to help, maybe if there were a single different sweet you wanted to highlight might be a different choice.

I'd also have some cropped off the sides, something like that you want to fill the screen. Good colours too. (y)

Vertical - great idea, lovely colours in there
Strong - 1st for me composition and the strength of both the towers and the metal work make a great impact
Wild - both excellent shots and so so different cant pick between them :(
Yum - 2nd image after the tighter crop works well a sea of yellow and white

OMG......I'm soooo far behind with comments.....sorry Dean :crying:

Strength.......1st image is superb, love the low angle , the sharpness.....I sooo wish I'd been braver & jumped the wall as well !
Like the 2nd version with the greater dof as well but not half as much as the 1st...needs to be framed I think (y)

Wild.....much as I love the flower in front of the lighthouse shot ( can't understand why :naughty: ) my choice would be the sea scape....love the drama of it and conversely the calmness of it,mono conversion works really well....another for the wall I reckon

Vertical....really original idea ,DOF a little OTT for me but love it anyway :)

Yum....fried eggs.......yeah , think I'm with you on the 2nd shot, works better for me with less oof bit at the front, cracking whites & yellows ( no pun intended! )

Hi DK, crop for me too excellent  very nicely lit and the colour is just brilliant, 3kg

simple image but very nice

Well I'm going to have to go against the flow here DK and say I prefer the first (y)

I think it gives a greater perspective as to the amount of sweets actually there,......... it gives the effect they could actually just go on for ever :D

Edit - Could be the fact that in the first they look like they're more laid out flat.......in the second more stacked on top of each other .........well they do to me :D

DK - what a cracking shot and perfect demonstration of why simplicity is such a powerful compositional tool. It's brilliant.

The only negative for me is that I genuinely can't decide between #1 and #2! In both I love the DOF, the vibrancy of the yellow and the light is as close to perfect as it's possible to get for me.

I think I'd prefer #1 if it weren't for the flat-on egg in the middle (horizontally) of the bottom edge of the frame. That feels a touch distracting but otherwise perfect. A really brilliant shot.

Hi DK ...I love the eggs...I was thinking of something similar with marshmallows....I like the first uncropped shot, it's bursting with colour and yunmminess, I don't think the OOF ones matter as your eye is just drawn to the whole image ... spot on for me.

Also your B&W seascape.. love the b&w, it doesn't always work with the sea, but with the suns rays and the boat ...it's quite magical :)

Hi Dean,
great idea, I like the crop best, I think it works better with it more in focus at the front somehow it does make it look as if the eggs go on forever (y)
Thanks Judi :)

I wasn't so sure whether the crop took too many eggs out, but seems like not :)

Ahhhh very true Graham... I was again just trying to keep in as many as possible, but think you are right, needs to be bigger, as for the individual egg, should have done that too :D

Great shot Dean. I refer the crop too. (y)
Cheers Brian :)

3 kg of fried eggs
That's what I thought... but hey he has got it out of his system now :D

Like it. Nice and vivid with plenty of detail. I did wonder what a single red one would look like.
Ooooo now that is a GREAT Idea

Enjoy a few your self :)

Cheers.
Sure did :) Nom Nom Nom

Vertical - great idea, lovely colours in there
Cheers Craig :)
Strong - 1st for me composition and the strength of both the towers and the metal work make a great impact
Thanks again... seems the most popular choice :)
Wild - both excellent shots and so so different cant pick between them :(
No Worries, glad you liked them both :)
Yum - 2nd image after the tighter crop works well a sea of yellow and white
Yep... a sea of Yummy Gummy Goodness :D

Another vote for #2 cropped version Dean (y)
A simple yet effective image, the vibrant yellow is particularly appealing.

OMG......I'm soooo far behind with comments.....sorry Dean :crying:
No worries :)

Oooo Cool Thanks Lynne :)

I am planning to print a few soon, so certainly will be one of them :)

Great mind hey

Now this again I would like to print, Just working out whether to go down the mounted route in a frame, so I can change them occasionally or not

Vertical....really original idea ,DOF a little OTT for me but love it anyway :)
Well we can't beat pushing boundaries can we... Thanks :)

Yum....fried eggs.......yeah , think I'm with you on the 2nd shot, works better for me with less oof bit at the front, cracking whites & yellows ( no pun intended! )
Hahhaaaa not intended, but well put :)

Now get back to your motocross editing :naughty:

Hi DK, crop for me too excellent  very nicely lit and the colour is just brilliant, 3kg

simple image but very nice
Cheers Allan :)

It's at times like this I wonder why I just don't go with my choice... guess I like to be sure and get opinion, which is greatly appreciated :)

Hey Phil... and why not hey, nice to get one vote for the first - Thanks :)

It is odd what the crop does to the perception of quantity

DK - what a cracking shot and perfect demonstration of why simplicity is such a powerful compositional tool. It's brilliant.
Damn... Thanks :)

Why thanks Susie :)

Mmmmmm at fluffy marshmallows

Also your B&W seascape.. love the b&w, it doesn't always work with the sea, but with the suns rays and the boat ...it's quite magical :)
Thanks again :)

I'm really enjoying these photography trips, trying to get something from landscapes, not something I get time for week in week out :)

Another vote for #2 cropped version Dean (y)

Cheers Iain :)

I was trying to not push the saturation too much, I think I am just at about the limit to get away with it on this one :)

Thanks for all the comments guys and gals - really appreciated (y)

I am still trying to catch up, for those that have commented again above I have opened a tab up to comment back tomorrow evening... I just have a few more things to do tonight first - Moving on......

CATCH UP TIME

My last images from my trip to Wales and catching up on themes - will have to use your imagination a bit here and there

First shot - A dreamy trance sort of image... thanks to Posiview for the great light painting (y)

With this one I really liked the wavy effect created by the blue light, to me it looked Dr Who'ish :D

Best viewed LARGE on Flickr as always

Wk 24 - Dreamy by TP DK, on Flickr

And the next 2 shots were my original ideal, trying to capture dreamy silky water, I think it works loosely, and indeed I had a great dreamy time taking them, took loads of shots with different settings and filters and these two I feel are pushed quite a bit, but not too far....

Comments welcome as always, they will always be returned (I know, eventually) - THANKS :)

Hi Matey

God...Wales seems like a lifetime ago...need another meet soon :)

Dreamy #1.....DR Who indeed ,very effective light painting (y)

Of the 2 waterfall shots I'd go for 2#.........for the simple reason that the large boulder oin the 1st dominated the scene & distracts from the water. The rocks in the 2nd lead you nicely to the waterfall...much better pOV ,lovely n sharp from front to back

Hi Dean,
great idea, I like the crop best, I think it works better with it more in focus at the front somehow it does make it look as if the eggs go on forever (y)

I have to agree with this!

Plus... I now want haribo fried eggs.

WRT your dreamy shots, I like these very much. 2 very different ideas but both well executed. <salad fingers>I like silky water...</salad fingers>

Strength - I prefer the first one, a very strong in your face image. I think a letterbox crop would make it even stronger (y)
Cheers Mark :)

Not thought of the letterbox crop... it would mess up my sunburst :D

Hi Matey

God...Wales seems like a lifetime ago...need another meet soon :)
Doesn't it just... had business trips to Manchester, Derby and Crewe since then... sure looking forward to the next meet though :)

Dreamy #1.....DR Who indeed ,very effective light painting (y)
Thank you and thanks again Mr Andy :)

Ahhhhh well spotted/pointed out, I see what you mean (Mental note added to landscape'ery database :geek:) - Thanks Lynne :)

Loving the YUM image DK... in that instant you wouldnt know where to start looking or where to finish lol... hope you didnt eat them all on yer own...
Cheers Colin :)

No not eaten them all... but the tub in which they now reside does seem to loose a couple each time I pass

I have to agree with this!

Plus... I now want haribo fried eggs.
Hahaaaa You can't have any of mine :p

WRT your dreamy shots, I like these very much. 2 very different ideas but both well executed. <salad fingers>I like silky water...</salad fingers>
:D thanks again :)

Hi there,
Love the light painting :) no idea how you do it, but its great very dreamy too.(y)
I like the composition of #2 but i'm not keen on water done like that
Thanks Judi :)

You must come on a meet one day/night and try the light painting, great fun :)... If you do just be sure to explain to Posiview the long exposure you're after, or you may get a surprise you were not expecting :naughty:

As for silky water... how odd :D

Wow - great first dream shot. That's the pick of them for me... hard to know where the "real" photo stops and the photoshop trickery starts... which is always a good sign!

Great colours, light and effects. Really works well together. (y)
Cheers Paul :)

Pleased to say though NO PHOTOSHOP involved, just One 30 second exposure, a wire wool spin and Andy working his wonders with his LED light/Hoola Hoop... such fun in the mountains

Dreamy - I am loving your first image works really well great work, I love the water on the rocks images as well but not quite seeing a dreamy connection.

Yum - mmmm yum yum I love fried egg sweets, fits the theme for me and my oh my there are plenty off them. I prefer your second cropped image as it's not quite so busy with eggs for my tastes. A nice clear sharply focused image, and a good choice for the theme.

Hi DK

Yum - #2 for me too. Lovely 2- colour shot and they do seem to go on forever.
Dreamy - #1 really sorry but I can't see the point of wire wool shots :(
#2 - I like this crop better than #3 as there is more of the dreamy still water in shot, altho that big rock middle right does look out of place with its moss growth when all the other rocks are smooth. Still don't suppose you could have moved it?

Dreamy - I am loving your first image works really well great work, I love the water on the rocks images as well but not quite seeing a dreamy connection.
Thanks Mandy :)

Well... the water shots look dreamy because ermmmmm  I can imagine unicorns frolicking in the background and harpists strumming on the riverbank... not too sure really :D just for some reason I made a connection :exit:

I now tend to agree that the closer more focus does work better, it's the simple detail that makes the shot not as per my initial thought/idea/plan :)

Hey Alan :)

Yum - #2 for me too. Lovely 2- colour shot and they do seem to go on forever.
Thanks Mate :) amazingly there is still some left too

Dreamy - #1 really sorry but I can't see the point of wire wool shots :(
OMGoodness... Shenanigans, night time Shenanigans that's what it's all about, have to squeeze one in the 52 somewhere

#2 - I like this crop better than #3 as there is more of the dreamy still water in shot, altho that big rock middle right does look out of place with its moss growth when all the other rocks are smooth. Still don't suppose you could have moved it?
Hahaaaaa moved it no... it was circa 8ft tall if i remember correctly :D

They were fun shots to take, to get this angle I was squatting on a half submerged rock, 2 tripod legs on two different rocks and the third fully extended into the water, that was the only way I could get lead in lines with the fallen rocks :)

awesome lightpainting for the first dream, is this ALL lightpainted as opposed to added in post? If so, what created the ripples in the forground from the blue light? any way up, like it a lot. Great spinning from Andy too. (y)

on the silky water, I'm not sure the big rock is really working, I think the smaller ones do the job just fine. Not that you could really roll it out the way though. I was thinking maybe a wider angle might work to make it (relatively) smaller in the frame, but you were as wide as you can go already. Saying that, I do still like the first, and prefer it of the two, even with the rock so it must be working after all. hmmm...

Vertical - Good thinking for the theme. Great colours and lighting on this. Pity that it's a Canon :p:exit:

Strong/Strength - I like the symmetry of #1. The sense of strength certainly comes across. Looks like Conway to me.

Wild - #1 is a super shot made by some lovely lighting and the inclusion of the solitary yacht. The mono conversion is also spot one.

Yum - Wow - How many of these have you bought. Your teeth will be falling out by the time your finish all these :D. Great photo and a super vibrant yellow in this. It must have taken an age to get them all to face upwards so great attention to detail.

Dreamy - #1 - Just the wire wool spinner would have been good but the light effects to the front right really makes this fit the dreamy theme. The blue colour nicely compliments the colour in the sky.

Cheers Graham :)

Yes all light painting, no trickery, how is it done, well, I could tell you but i'd have to kill you :D

I hope Andy doesn't mind me saying, but it is his highly specialised equipment he acquired from a secret source, which incorporates in a carbon fibre casing, nano electrons which are being constantly bombarded with alternating micro currents that then emit a radiant glow (read 'plastic hoola hoop with LED strip stuck on with gaffer tape that he knocked together at home) for this one he walked across slightly then walked towards me holding the hoop in front, slowly walked until the hoop went right past the front of the lens and then turned it off.... Magic

Thanks really Peter :D

And there you are right mate... and thanks again :)

Wild - #1 is a super shot made by some lovely lighting and the inclusion of the solitary yacht. The mono conversion is also spot one.
Cool...Cheers Peter :)

was good timing to say the least.... was a long walk to this Island, but well worth it :)

Yum - Wow - How many of these have you bought. Your teeth will be falling out by the time your finish all these :D. Great photo and a super vibrant yellow in this. It must have taken an age to get them all to face upwards so great attention to detail.
It was my son bought a 3kg sack from Makro :D

Have nibbled a few yes... but there are still a lunchbox of stragglers... and Yes, did take a while to keep turning them over, kept spotting one that was upd down under another one :banghead:

Dreamy - #1 - Just the wire wool spinner would have been good but the light effects to the front right really makes this fit the dreamy theme. The blue colour nicely compliments the colour in the sky.
Cheers Peter... I liked the combination, made it look different from the usual wirewool shot I thought, thanks again... and thanks again to Andy :)[/quote]

Hi DK ..... I love the swirly wire wool....I need to persuade my OH to stand in the garden whirling :D
Now that he could certainly take the wrong way :D
The dreamy water is fascinating ...have no idea how to do that but it looks good.
Cheers Susie :)

Just a long exposure, I don't have a big stopper, so seems it was such a bright day I had to close my aperture as much as I could, and added 2 graduated ND filters put on at an angle, and then focused on a darker area and kept adjusting the exposure compensation until I lost all highlights... I think :D

a 10 stop big stopper is TOP of my want list, along with a descent Lee polorisor, but for how much I would use them struggle to justify their purchase :( but I presume a day will come where some funds are available, a deal is on offer and the temptation will be hard to resist :help:

And here is my next catch up shot(s)... last weeks theme, so not far off now :)

Loud, had a few ideas... didn't get the opportunity last night at a nephews 21st party to capture the live band - they were nicely VERY loud, but lighting was poor...

So onto the idea I had in the back of my mind as my back up, a nice simple still shot, bright colourful and too the point, having taken it and done some spot removal, darkened the background and a few other minor tweaks, what do I think... well, I like them, they make sense to me, but after asking Mrs DK I'm now not so sure it is as obvious as I thought it was  - So the second shot which was my first choice is now my reserve (tried VERY hard to have only the volume in focus, not easy this time), but after Mrs DK's comment I have edited a second shot with a slightly larger DoF which includes a bit more of a clue, this is now my first shot :D

Here you go... View Large on Flickr for best effect :)

Week 27 - as 'Loud' as it will go - my windows phone

My attempt to bring the volume 'Ring' text into more prominence as well as the 30/30

My original shot trying to get the volume 30/30 as the main focus point... as I say it works for me, but maybe only because I know what it is :)
