    Tripod choice

My Manfrotto Neotec tripod has a jammed leg (again) having already sent it back twice to be repaired (at a cost of £115) so it seems I need to buy a new tripod. The Neotec is a great tripod when it works, so fast to set up, but very unreliable. I am thinking of either the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 or...

    Canon 5D mark2 vs 5D mark3

Better processor, slight pixel increase to name but 2; there are several other improvements (which I don't really know off hand) but overall I am not convinced that the price difference justifies upgrading, well not for me anyway. If money is not an issue, then go for the newer model, but I am...

Nikon D600 Oil Problem has it been fixed?

I was going to leave Canon behind to return to Nikon and get a D600 (I started out with Nikon and I've always felt like a Nikonian) as it sounds like a great body, but having read lots of reviews complaining about this oil on the sensor issue, i've decided to stay with Canon for a while. Dust...

    Canon lens prices

First the new 24-70mm f2.8 comes out at a staggering £1899 and now we have the option of a 24-70mm F4 (with IS and Macro facility) at a mere £1499. Is it just me or are these prices ridculous? I mean, you could buy two really decent laptops for those prices. Nikons 24-70mm suddenly seems like a...

    First sunrise of 2013

Ah, the sun, I remember that. I'd agree with the flare being a bit of a distraction but otherwise a nice start to the year.

    Whitford lighthouse

So what size should it be? This is my first picture post on here and I have used photobucket (which seems to be the way to go on other non photographic forums). Is there any restriction on size?

Help me decide...is one better than the other?

2 for me, just looks more balanced.

    Passing Squall

That is a stunner - very atmospheric.

    Whitford lighthouse

I took this on the one decent day we've had in the last two weeks. I cranked up the ISO to 400 to get an exposure fast enough to freeze the Oystercatchers which kept flying to and fro. I used a Tamron 90m macro lens, I know, not exactly made for this job, but there we go.

What lens/ es do you use when out for landscapes?

A 17-40mm is my standard lens; it seems to do for 90% of my shots. I'm considering going to primes though.

How long does the "DSLR" Have left...

I guess it also depends what you shoot for - if its just for personal pleasure and you rarely enlarge beyond A4 then you probably don't really need a DSLR but for professional work and big enlargements, a big sensor will always have an edge over a smaller sensor I would have thought, otherwise...

    Lens or body?

I realise that, I'm just dreaming!

    Non L series primes

Fast maximum apertures are not something I need or want as most of my pics are tripod mounted at f11-22; also faster lenses weigh a ton more. Bokeh seems to be something that photographers talk about and everyone else pays not a jot of attention to, and again not really relevant for my area of...

    Lens or body?

I should have mentioned that I'm talking amateur use here - I guess a pro will abuse their equipment more and in that situation the extra expense for build quuality will be worth it (and tax deductible!) My only issue with entry level bodies (apart from their plasticky feel) is the amount of...

    Non L series primes

I'll be quick - Canon primes without the L designation - are they considered inferior to Canon zooms which do have the L designation?
