Try it with a 70_200 heheI was the other way around. I never used a shoulder strap until I got my 5D. I always used a very short strap wrapped around my hand.
When I got my 5D I found it was just a bit too heavy to use like this, and then I got the 24-70 and this was confirmed .
New firmware coming soon!

But, will this compete with the firmware hack provided by Magic lantern? Specifically interested in OTTR and increase of DR using dual ISO.
What did you actually say? Did you phrase it as a question or were you more 'strident' and ask "Do you think it's acceptable for a 'flagship pro' model to wear like this after such a short space of time?
Nope - pointed out the differences between my 4 year old 50D with 120k Images and 15 month old 5D mk3, explained I didn't think such an expensive body should wear like that and asked what could be done.
According to them, and possibly reading between the lines, no-one else has issues and it's down to my misuse
pointed out the differences between my 4 year old 50D with 120k Images and 15 month old 5D mk3,
It's a great shot Les - nice to see someone using some kit with a bit of wear on it - it just looks like they've been together a while.
Surely the difference is that the 5D MkIII body covers are made of Magnesium Alloy which has to be painted black, whereas the 50D body was covered in black plastic.
My 1D cameras all show paint wear on areas that aren't covered in other additional materials (rubber, vinyl etc).
Personally, I'd accept this as normal wear and tear for a body constructed in this way. My old film bodies used to reveal brass and other materials through worn or chipped paint, back in the dim and distant past; it was accepted as an indication of usage and hard won 'war wounds'.
You obviously disagree. I wish you well in pursuing it further with Canon.
My mistake - sorry.Actually the 50D is also a magnesium body that's painted. No plastic on that, hence the comparison.
Yes.Did you see the image I posted as to the amount of wear just from rubbing against my clothing?
Obviously it'll only resolve the wear issue in the very short term unless you change the way you carry it. Or if Canon change the way it paints the body parts. However - will this resolve the issue or am I looking at a similar thing in another years time?
I'd get arsey and say that this isn't acceptable, the camera isn't fit for purpose and you want it remedied correctly - out of warranty of not, I'd not expect that level of camera to have paint flake off like that!
Whilst some people would be upset it had worn (I wouldn't be that fussed myself, my cameras are tools to be used) how do you work out it's not fit for purpose? Have a think to yourself about those words, what is the purpose of a camera? To take photos. Does this detract from the camera's ability to take photos? No. As such you'd just sound silly.
Sorry, one of my pet hates is people incorrectly quoting law (having studied it for 3 years at degree level).
It may be a tool, but it's not a black and decker drill
Then it shouldn't be treated as one!
just bought myself a 5 D MKIV and really impressed with it
OK, Mickledore, lets get this straight as you haven't read my posts.
it's not 'sung about freely' just carried over my shoulder, usually with a hand on the front edge of the strap to stop it swinging about. The wear has been from the movement of my clothing from the top of my leg as I walked. Once the paint started wearing then it wore very quickly, it went from slight wear to that in 3-4 weekends. As I was shooting an assignment and it was being used it got progressed with Canon after that work had been completed.
Canon have stated they are not aware of similar issues and so it's the way I've used it. I've not changed the way I've used it compared to my 50D which I used for 4 years and over 120K shots taken. They are unable to give me an estimate of a price to repair, quoting an hourly rate and parts but this would replace the casing. As such and with the expectations it will do it again, I will seek alternatives and also apply some tape to avoid future wear. I don't sell on my cameras as I buy and use them so that's not an issue to me.
It works fine, just a little unsightly. I thought I'd make Canon aware via CPS in case there was an issue with the paint. I'm also making other users aware of the possible wear rate via this thread.
