weekly Ratman's 52 week challange 2012 Week 10 'Win' Added MONEY NOW ADDED :)

Hi Roly

great to see a couple of really different tkae on both theme's....doubt very much that Secure will be repeated by anyone else (y)

Sweet....yup , aggre with more needle less syringe but thats about all the crit....works well (y)

Secure.....cooo , I'd love to have a bash at flying one of those beasts !#1 for me....nice angle & focus....great shot considering the ISO

No points from me. I have a massive fear of flying and therefore any photo that is connected to planes fails. ;)

I prefer the first one too :D

#1 for me too Roly, the flap is kinda lost in the image in #2.
I know its not everyones cup of tea but may I suggest an HDR treatment if you ever shoot the same subject again? A friend of mine has aircraft cockpit HDR photographs and the level of detail in them is phenomenal.
I also enjoyed your side storyline to these images. Good work (y) Iain

Roly
another good week. No1 for me, great dof, at such a big iso i think you ve done a really good job.

Hi, Roly
Just trying to catch up in a random way.

Sigh - #2 for me. good framed composition, nice light, works well in b&w because not too harsh in tone. Little boy lost in his own thoughts and looking a little wistful. Theme resonates

Secure #1 for me. Many comments made to which it is hard to add anything new. Nice shot.

What a great idea and well executed think it’s no 1 for me to

Thanks mate, just trying to put that 10-20 to some good use, have to say it's impressing me so far :)

I've been lucky enough to have a couple of flights in the simulator and can quite happily take off and fly about, just think I need more practice at landing. My last attempt would of probably broken the aircraft in real life.

Thanks for the comments :)

Dunno about secure, that looks down right scary. :D

When I first went into a flight deck that's how I felt but to be honest once you know what everything is and realise that everything is pretty much duplicated or triplicated it gets a lot less scarey.

No points from me. I have a massive fear of flying and therefore any photo that is connected to planes fails. ;)

You shouldnt be affraid of flying, if you were to fall from 6 miles high it would only be the last half inch that hurt, am I helping?? :puke:

Personally I would much rather be in a plane than a car, above 10,000 ft you're in the company of professionals, down here you can be wiped out by joy rider or drink driver anywhere..

Thank you for the comment Iain, I still have the RAW file so I could try an HDR :)

Thank you, Just goes to show that the Canon 50D can handle high ISO. I was worried about buying it but shoot a fair bit at ISO800 + and can honestly say I am quite happy, of course I have to use a bit of noise reduction in PSE but I am pleased with the results.

The picture below was going to be my official entry of the week, the aircraft being secured with the chock, but I clipped the chock on the nose wheel.

Ooooo I was thinking chock shot too, but I'm stuck indoors on sick leave:razz:

You need a close up of it now.

Now read that quickly lol

It never even entered my head to do a close up of the chock :bonk:

Will hopefully take my camera in again at some point, want to get some pictures at dawn/dusk on the ramp.

No 1 for me too. You can't miss the message. Its a nice tidy shot with all the clutter out of focus.

Here we go then, I have avoided this section on purpose to try and not get influenced by others photos.

Sweet (too much) was sitting around my Dad's trying to think of something different to post for the theme this week when he checked his blood sugar level and gave himself some Insulin.

Cheers Dad, job done...lol

TP Week 4 - (Too) Sweet by o RATMAN o, on Flickr

LOL, nice interpretation!

Thanks for the comments guy's and gal's. Think I will use a reshoot card with the Sweet photo at some point, just wanted to do something different but I just kept thinking about jelly babies...

This week for secure I thought I would take my camera into work for the night, this is the flight deck of a Boeing 757, a few millions dollars worth of aircraft. Always tickled me that in amongst all that technology you still can't beat a simple plastic flapper for the cabin secure placard.

Taken at night I had to use ISO 3200 to get a shutter speed that I could hand hold whilst sitting on the flight deck floor, would of liked to got more of the throttle quadrant in or the yoke but it took the attention away from the cabin secure placard.

No you're not imagining things, the placard wouldn't fit in the second shot so I moved it :)

1st one for me, having the secure focus composed like that is much better than the other shot were its lost.

It's a weird colour in there though, is that the natural colour or is there a colour cast on there?

That's the actual colour, some components might seem a different shade as they might get painted during overhaul.

It is a horrible colour, not sure why Boeing used it. Thankfully all our new aircraft have boring grey :)

I seem to recall a conversation years ago about it being brown for pilot fatigue on long haul flights, but I may be remembering wrong.

Would explain why the 757/767 has brown and the 737 grey. Not been up front of a 747/777 for a long time so can't remember the colour scheme on those.

And believe me there has been many a night shift where I would rip open that cupboard and give them a slap lol

I'm sure that designers of airliners sit and discuss the most awkward component and then decided to build the entire aircraft around it

Sweet - cracking idea and very different

Secure 1 for me as well, theres just tooo much going off in 2

That's because they're all probably ex military! We specialise in buying the difficult to fix/ replace stuff!!!

'secure' not only a very interesting photograph but nicely on theme. I like the composition of your 2nd image best. I think a bit of walnut dash would look good with that brown. No on 2nd thoughts keep it grey..... (y)

I prefer the first picture, looks more clear and precise to what secure is about. Yet again a good week Roly, cant wait to see tomorrows challenge

Thanks for the comments all, yep looking forward to the new theme tomorrow. Will be at work spending the day catching up on commenting on everyone's post, well I might as well get paid to do it eh :)

Well this weeks theme was a little harder than I thought it would be, shifts, weather and feeling a bit rough all conspired against me. In the end I thought I would go with a reshoot of a fishing boat that I had snapped a few years back on Worthing beach. Mackeral fishing was the big industry in the 18th century until it's new wealth created tourism. This saw Worthing grow from a small hamlet to the town it is today.

TP Week 6 - Industry by o RATMAN o, on Flickr

Mackrel fishing ... oh that takes me back, all along the south coast, Seaton, Beer - what great fun it was and a smashing supper to boot, never lost my love of mackrel. For reminding me of my joy, yours gets pic of the week as far as I'm concerned :D

I love that shot big time, but it doesn't really say industry to me.
