Simon's 52 for 2025

Week 7 - Through a window

Grey gloom continues. Really haven't got much photographic mojo at the moment to be honest. Penarth lifeboats comes to the rescue for the 2nd time in a couple of weeks for this week's theme.

Well done Penarth lifeboat, agree with you re the weather though did have a glimpse of blue sky today.

Nice one Simon :)

What Kell said - slightly obscured but still a very recognisable subject.

It ticked the box, Simon. Hope you have better weather soon. Same here, Grey, grey and another grey day!

Sorry SImon, I'm catching up again... Your silhouette shot and the cropped versions got me scratching my head... in the end I prefer your original as the four rods in ascending height order tells it's own story. Either way it's a great capture!

And your lifeboat shot is very well framed and very interesting in its own right. The jaunty and slightly dischevelled looking bunting really adds to an otherwise very orderely scene for me too :)

Cheers Ross. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. Much appreciated!

Makes me want to go up to the window and press my face against it to get a better look....

Week 8 - Streetsign

Full disclosure - a bit of a cheat this week. I've been out and about on several occasions, but nothing has struck me as anything other than a bog standard shot of a basic street sign - and trust me, I've been looking. And I don't just want to take a shot of a 40mp (or more likely round here 20mph) sign or similar just to "tick the box".

So I've gone back to this that I took on 28th December when visiting my brother in Lincolnshire. It's a little different to to the usual village name sign, so I hope you like it.

That works very nicely!

You may want to check your link on the main thread - I couldn't find it.

Very fancy sign and a few colourful plants in December- fair play.
Nice punchy colours from the iPhone

I do - I've spent a significant chunk of my life in Lincolnshire somewhat against my will at (then) Her Majesties various finest RAF establishments. Not my favourite part of the UK if I'm perfectly honest but they do make good signs!

Thanks - I lived not far from here (Donington) from '69-'79. I have a great affinity with the vast open spaces and smell of decaying cabbage  - and the constant overflying of planes from the multitude of RAF and USAF bases

I like that Simon. It tells the story of the village. There's a sign I like at Manby in Lincolnshire, that has a depiction of a Jet Provost trainer on it, in memory of the former RAF base there.

That’s Pete.
Saw lots of Provosts in my time there. They flew from Cranwell too - fast jet training base

Week 9 - Horizontal

Well the sun has finally been shining - what a difference it makes to both mood and photography!

This is a wide angle (16mm) of Cardiff Bay from Penarth.

For those of you with good eyes, you can spot the Principality Stadium to the left, and then in short order from centre, St David's Hotel, Millennium Centre, Sendedd, and the tiny, white Norwegian Church. The actual barrage os to the right - the green back where there are some sail like structures commemorating Scott's journey to the Antarctic.

Nice shot Simon - and that red buoy really helps it along!
