(I do not like the term brutalism. Functionalism or functional purism would be more apt. At the time, in the mid-60s, the Ruhr-Universität Bchum was seen as a "learning factory" by its founding fathers. And one showed the building materials, where possible. The wooden boards for the concrete casings were left to be seen clearly. This was called "Sicht-Beton"
("Visible Concrete"). I am a little familiar with concrete building. I wanted to become an architect, completed a 3-year concrete worker apprenticeship, and worked as a skilled concrete
worker for a year, before changing my professional plans ... ---)
