The 52 Weeks, The 8th Installment. COMPLETE! Thank You All!

I love puffins! Great photo, well composed!

Low is a great photo too, great colours and reflections of the men in high viz outfits!

Nice puffin, good choice for the theme.
The lifeboat and crew is excellent, well composed, great reflection.

Had a look at your photos mate and I must say I like them all, but
Juxtaposition - great contrast
Beautiful - it is indeed, amazing picture
Low - good reflections are not bad :)
Shadow - I like how crisp the image is

Keep it up.

Hi Michael,

Beautiful - Nicely captured., Beautiful Plumage :) A bit of a shame it's not facing in your direction, but nothing you can do about that.
Low - My favourite of the two. It has interest, tells a story and fun reflections.

Thank you Tim, I chose it as I liked the background, would have loved more time on the island.

Fine puffin portrait (y)

Loving the lifeboat crew, no only that great reflection but also they look like figurines lined up like that. (y)

lifeboat one I really liked myself, very pleased with it

two nice shots, as above great reflections on the lifeboat crew

thanks Allan for looking in

Appreciate you looking in, much appreciated!

Low is a great shot and the refelections make it for me....

Thanks Mark.

Couldn't quite figure out what the hard shot was until I read your description, good find for the theme.

For Escort Mexico takes me back, nice matching pair.

I can imagine that one of those organs is hard to make a good composition of, you've caught that figure nicely and well spotted for the theme.

hard - great find and excellent photo, I like the processing very much
low - nice colours and obviously low PoV...
music - clever take on the theme, works very well

Hard time, poor teddy ...

Excellent car shot for Pair ... really nice pov with wide angle feel. (y)

Music ... nice find, fun & colourful.

Thank you Brnd.

Nice catch up Michael, my pic for the theme is match very nicely taken shot of these old cars.

Cheers Dave, I was pleased with match, took me a while to get the shot..

Now for creature, I have been plagued with camera issues making things a little frustrating to say the least! But I did manage to photograph a ladybird and some damselflies.

Going to go with this Ladybird, I liked the position it was at in the leaf and after a few steps this way and a few steps that way I managed to get it framed with the nettle flowers as I wanted.

Hi Michael ... sorry to hear about you camera probs (rip offs)

love the ladybird on the nettle leaf, nice compo & dof. (y)

I just wonder if creature could be a bit punchier? but it is a lovely photo and the leaf stem leads the eye nicely to the ladybird

Too much nettle for me. Had a look at the Flickr original and zoomed in and I would prefer it that way but to each his or her own. I have had a dearth of ladybirds in my garden for the last few years so it's noce to see someone has them; the most I ever saw was when I had a Monkey Puzzle Tree and the ladybirds loved it.

Hi Michael,

Hard - Quite a gritty image. What is a petrifying well?
You've lit the teddy well, he could so easily have blended into the black.

Match - are they Mexicos? Surely that's a flat fronted RS2000 on camera right, the wheel arches on the mk2 on the left look slightly extended to me, which perhaps says it's a lesser model that's been modded. Gotta love the old mk1 & 2 Escorts. We used to scrap them back in the day, worth a fortune now!
Quite tightly cropped, but I suspect that's to avoid other cars, there are certainly others about. The colour does help them stand out from the rest though.

Musical - Vibrant, with some motion going on too. It's an interesting thing.

Creature - Whilst I'm not commenting on bugs, I don't mind ladybugs and do like the colourful way she stands out from the green of the leaf. The edit does give it a bit more punch, but it was fine in the original too (imo).

Hi Martin, thanks for the comments, I would have liked to have got closer, but this patch of nettles was over a wall. But I did like the composition. I don't get anywhere near as many as I used to in my garden, a great shame. But the bees and butterflies have also reduced drastically in the last 3 years or so.

Really like the edit (y)

Me to, thanks Chris!

Im sure they were 2 mexico's, just one was a bit older than the other, was having a chat with the owner of the one on the left. There was an rs2000 on the left, so I moved to a tighter image to concentrate on the 2 mexico, see pic

Here's a link that words it nicely for the petrifying well, better than I could lol.

Thanks as always for taking the time to look in.

Looking at the wheel arches on the RS2000, they are slightly wider than the rhs escort, so you're right, not an RS, so could easily be a Mexico (and you were there so should know ;) )
It's many many years since we used to tool (I'm sure potter is the word really) around in my mates black RS2000.

Bees I have in abundance as I am a beekeeper with three hives in my garden, I also have a nest of bumblebees in my bathroom wall which you can hear when using the loo late at night. Bumblebees are lovely and when they have gone -- usually in August or September -- they never come back so if anyone gets them be pleased, not worried.

I agree, great compo but could do with a little more punch.

Hi Michael, a long time since I've been to your thread, sorry to say I have been very bad a commenting this year :( Just going to pick a few out that I particularly like! Really like the textures in Straight, Love the puffin, how can you not! Great reflections in the sand for the lifeboat, might have been good to see all of the boat but I guess that didn't work for some reason. The hard teddy looks great in B&W, I didn't get it till I read your description, I thought it was hanging on a washing line in the rain and lastly the edit on the ladybird is a big improvement :D

Match - I think the 3 Fords works really well better than the 2. Doesn't really matter that the models are different, the colours are close enough to give the impression they are the same.

Creature - The second shot is much better, with slightly more punchy colours. Really helps to show off the ladybird.

Don't worry on the commenting side Georgina, I can't comit to loads of comments either. The whole view took the impact away and I couldn't get a nice balance between the highlights and shadows. Thanks for the comments, they are appreciated as always.

Now synthetic

Got my camera and lens back from repair, here is the 1st shot since getting it back.

Big (but Quick) comment catchup for your entries for me.

Straight, I would have prefered to see the Dof extend to the end of the wood. Houses in background have a spot on them, lools like oil on the sensor. Nice details in the wood and the green lifts the image somewhat. Nothing to look at in the sky so maybe crop a bit out would work?

Oval, I like the way the image in the mirror is focused, but the highlights spoil it a bit.

Unsttractive, nice find in theory, but he looks a jolly fellow to me.

Shadow, Image reminds me of tigger in whinny the pooh. The shadow is at a pleasing angle.

Beautiful, very nice Image DOF helps highlight the beautiful puffin. Cracking shot.

Low, looks better on Flickr, nice reflections, good colours, cropping around the boat looks a bit naff, but I supposed you concentrated on the crew members.

Hard, Mother Shipton Cave, been there many times as a lad. not been there for a long while. Not sure if the shutter speed for that image is too fast, I prefer the multiteddy shot you have on flickr with the slower shutter.

Match, 2 fine Ford Escorts. I had an Escort GT as a lad, gear stick kept coming out. Fun Days. Love the colours.

Musical, nice colours and good focus, seems a tad bight

Creature, Nice colours and good focus on point of interest. I would have looked at cropping the left hand edge to remove that other leaf.

Synthectic, Nice colours, in good focus against a pleasing background.

Pete

Glad you got your camera back and working, nice sharp, bright photo for synthetic which suits the theme well.

A catch-up from me as I've only just got up-to-date again with my themes, and you've been busy!

Beautiful - that's a lovely shot of a Puffin. I'm so envious; I'd love to see one :)
Low - really eye-catching bright colours and reflections, and an unusual angle that works well for the theme.
Hard - I've never heard of this place but I do like the image; it's a bit creepy with the poor teddy apparently suspended while water rushes down around it. Full of impact and perfect in B&W (y)
Match - a good find for this theme, two well-loved and brightly coloured old cars side-by-side.
Musical - nicely-balanced, bold and striking. It must have been hard to find a good angle but I think you managed it.
Creatures - The edited version is definitely the best as the red pops out from the surrounding greens. We see a lot of extreme close-ups of little creatures, so it's a nice change to see one in more of its surroundings.
Synthetic - good idea with bold colours standing out well against a contrasting natural background.

Glad you've got your camera problems sorted, too.

Nice rural setting but not sure if the train a little to dominant in the scene particularly the large expanse of platform

Yes, like the train, don't like the platform though, it may have been preferable to have the people you so patiently waited to leave actually in the shot to break it up a bit.

I like the image although I'm not sure it says 'rural' to me because the engine is so prominent :) Lovely greens in the background to contrast with the bold red of the loco, and I like the diagonal line of the track. The expanse of platform does detract a bit from the interesting stuff in the rest of the frame and I wonder if there was another angle here, but I'm guessing you were restricted by the location of your high viewpoint (bridge?)

Thanks for those thoughts, the people really didn't add much to the scene from this particular location, it was taken on the steps of the bridge as I wanted the rural setting of the railway in view.

Perhaps this one is better as there is no platform and the locos are in the cutting. The 2 locos are the ones that haul the royal train.

Michael

Nice rural background to your very colourful Train. I think it would be very difficult to crop out the platform as you need the track curling round to add interest and lead the eyes back into the picture. Having one or 2 people there would have been a better option to break up the expanse of the platform.

Prefer the 1st image myself as the second one does not suggest as much Rural to me.

Pete

Synthetic works well for me.... colourful and love the BG.

I like the second train shot ... single track and lots of greenery up both sides.

(y)

Ooooh trains! What's not to like?:woot::banana:

The loco in the first is so clean and bright it could be a model and I quite like it for the theme, as you did I'd pick it over the second for the theme.

Hi Michael,

Synthetic - I like the contrast of the blue and the pink, the use of diagonals and even the background.
Nothing to moan about from me :)

Rural - The second shot for me, single track through the countryside sells rural to me. I don't mind 67s, but the 60 is more pleasing on the eye imo. Where was this then?
