weekly Marsha's 2014 52 Week 11 added 03 Apr.

Hi Marsha, thought I had commented on this? Must have been flickr.
I love it, lighting, colour tones and composition all superb(y)

Appologies for missing your thread excellent so far really enjoyed catching up through your images.

Your mineral pic is very good lucky find or not its a great shot.
Did also really like your smoke shot (y)
Thanks Simon.
Good find Marsha (y) ........you lost me with the 'apt date' thing though
Really Phil? You don't do commercialised romance either?
You did well to find the mineral shot, I like the rock colour with the white of the salt
I think the mineral pic is great, what a lovely find :)
Very nice, the salt adds to it.
Thanks Kev, Susie and Mark.
It fits the theme very well, plenty salt there, sorry to hear you're not too well get well soon (y)(y)
Thanks Judi. I only have a cold. But thanks to a severe chest infection in 2012 I get slammed every time I get even a sniff of a virus! Usually a cold, then sinus infection, then chest infection! This has gone sore throat, feel better, claggy cough, nasty cough, cold! After two weeks I'm bored of it already! Who knew that the sunshine isle makes bugs linger longer!

Thanks Iain, I often comment on yours on FB and forget about here, doh!

Yeah. This for me and perhaps a little closer.
I have a closer shot, but someone would have said 'too tight on the bottom, I'd like to see a wider shot' Doh! Cheer for dropping in Andy.

Hi hun

hope you're managing to battle through the lurgy...you need some good'ole British winter weather to kill those bugs :D

Minearl ...very apt & well spotted for the date posted....I'm liking the crop as is , plenty of detail to see & the complimentary tones works really well....could see that framed & hung in a seaside cafe....(y)

Thanks Lynne, our trip back is in jeopardy, stupid military aircraft tried to fall out of the sky! We're trying to find out if we can still get back but planning as if we are and if I do I'll be flying in an oxygen bubble to avoid any more bugs!
Nice find and certainly a different shot to everyone's for this theme. Hope you've returned to full health by now.
Thanks Peter, getting there slowly. My lungs don't cope too well any more with even the slightest sniffle :puke:
Well spotted Marsha, super detail and very unusual shot for the theme :)
Good spot for mineral, out of the ordinary.
Nice composition and lighting. Something different (y)
Thank you everyone.

Looks like I'll be late this week. I have a shot but it's a bit predictable. I'll see if I can better it once the midgets are back at school!

Ending:

My daughter doesn't understand the concept of losing! And especially being beaten by her three year old brother! Her world ends every time she doesn't get her own way which is quite a lot!!

I fear I need to hold the baton aloft, @blakester pass the shoehorn/ crowbar!

Positive:

Positive Mental Attitude!

This is a guy smiling as he's about to set off on a 2500 mile bike ride to raise money for Brain Tumour research!!!
If you fancy a read his full story is here!

Alas I couldn't do anything about the bland sky, it was 8am and a Coptic storm was a brewing!

Any C&C appreciated!

Hi Marsha, you are difficult to keep up with, you are like busses nothing for ages then 3 at once :)
your son? his expression is excellent, works really well for the theme, pity you couldn't isolate him a little more
Ending now theres a classic pose, how many times did i see that when mine were young, has to be my favourite out of the 3
positive is quite amusing I wonder how many times during the ride he is less than positive, good luck to him though

Sense - fits the theme I hope the birthday boy was spoilt. Shame about the little lady with part of her ear clipped. I do like the composition of the image nicely taken.

Ending - classic shot my daughter does that so often her self, the composition again is very good. I have no real crit to offer on this shot.

Positive - nice composition as well, shame about the sky tho. But we must do the best with what we have at the time. All in all a good catch up from you and pleased to hear your feeling better from your month long lergy.

Sense: Not possible given the circumstances but it would have been a very good picture of the boy if only he and the cake were in it. That said it's a good effort and a good candid.

Ending: Shoehorn is not the word!!! We should have competition wherein the photographer posts a picture and the rest of us have to guess the theme used; I'll wager we wouldn't have got 'Ending' from this one :p.

Positive: I do like the picture and shows the positive attitude on the guy's face as he starts on his way. I did think the helicopter had something to do with it, that he was raising money for an air ambulance or something. Since the helicopter is not involved I would have cropped it out as much as possible.

Sense, obvious crit re the girl, she looks halfway between mesmerised and disinterested. The birthday boy side of it is great though.

Ending is a true corker, the pose is flat on the floor and the emotion come though really well. I love looking at shots like this at full-res, the detail is incredible, shallow DOF, and focus spot on.. Is that a small fly-type creature 4" above her calf's? :)

Positive he certainly is.

Seem to be getting more comments relative to aptness to theme, rather than on the photo itself, as long as you can back it up with a bit of narrative, it's fine by me! ;)

Sense is a very true capture of a chid's birthday party - Batman looks so excited and his guest not so much

Ending - yup we've had lots of "games" end in this way or worse - nice use of DOF - lovely and crisp where it should be and a nice blur where it's not (y)

Positive - excellent reportage shot - best of luck to him :)

Sense - A nice family snap but the real picture is on the right hand side

Ending - Shoehorn yes but a nice picture complimented with some vivid colours

Positive - Maybe crop some of the sky off. This one would be at home in a newspaper article. Could be worth sending it with the story to the local papers or RAF news.

Hi Marsha
Sense - agree with peter@DeltaSkies
Ending - Notwithstanding the circumstances, your daughter always takes a good shot. Smashing comp and colours and perfect capture of the expression for the theme. Spot on focus
Positive - even without the back story , the cheery expression and the comfort of the helicopter there for rescue purposes fits the theme for me. As Sarah says, good reportage shot.

Hi Marsha
Sense, you've really captured the anticipation in the lad's expression, great timing (y)
Ending, yes maybe needs a little explanation but I am with Graham on this, I see nothing wrong in adding a little narrative to our shots. Now where does Little Miss Goblin get her attitude from?;)
I do like the image though, the richness of the colours, lots of detail, technically very good but most importantly IMHO it tells a little story in itself.
Positive, as has been said above, a great piece of reportage photography, one which again tells a story or at least makes us viewers want to find out a little bit more about the story behind the scene.
Good work Marsha (y)

Hi ya , back again for another catch up !

Positive.......2500 miles....blimey...all for a great cause though....your people shots are just great , well focused , lots of detail :)

Ending....you have a really photogenic midget there.....unusual portrait but super capture , great use of DOF & another that you really need to get printed & hung

Sense....love his expression......(y)

Hope your bug's all cleared up now hun

H, Marsha, Sense, the lads face is sterling. The girls also, but I feel cropping her out...sorry, adds impact.

Ending, I see the connection and like the low angle.

Positive, well composed and thumbs up to him for this expedition.

Cheers.

Sense - lovely capture and his expression says it all.

Ending - I agree that it fits the theme ok with the narrative, great low shot and certainly one to put in the "embarrassing" folder for later :D

Positive - Would have fitted better if the fund raising was connected to the helicopter but still a great shot and equally great cause (y)

Hi Marsha,
Sense.. a real sense of anticipation or excitement there, lovely photo (y)
Ending...A really good low down shot love the way the dof has surrounded her, well in focus too (y)(y)
Positive..Nice sharp shot, shame about the sky but we work with what we have, well done to him too(y)

Hi, thanks everyone for the comments. I know what you're saying about the little girl in the sense shot, if you knew her you would appreciate that she's a bit energetic so having her sat still and focused was quite something! No Allan, he's not my son.
Lynne, you'll be impressed I've actually ordered some photos to hang on the wall, something I should do more of!
and the comfort of the helicopter there for rescue purposes fits the theme for me.
Yes, this is why I used this shot. As well as the epic journey he's on but he may need rescuing at some stage!!! This is where he used to work as well and the start point of his journey!

He's doing well and seems to be smiling in every photo he's taken :)

Time, something I seem to lack still!

But today the sun was blazing and I am finally healthy so I went for a trip out on my mountain bike down the cliffs. I intended on searching for bugs and flowers so only had the macro lens and no tripod! Obviously I ended up at the bottom of the cliffs at a place called Dreamers Bay (where I took my Line and mineral shots). Obviously I decide to try a long exposure shot, with camera propped on my camera bag! Even if I had a tripod it would still be blurry as I do not have the knack for landscapes and sharpness!

This is an 8 second long exposure, I like the rock erosion behind for the theme but do feel it may be another crowbar fit!

Any C&C would be appreciated but my lack of commenting on others I don't expect any.

Hi Marsha. I really like that, the colours are excellent, maybe a bit less exposure to the rocks, but the water is fantastic
it doesn't look blurry to me just a little overexposed on the rocks
i don't care if t's a slight crowbar I like it (y)

Hi Marsha, edit looks good, certainly gives the white cliffs more detail, (y) Doesn't look blurry to me either, nice image :)

Yeah, the perils of calm water. I can se it's a long exposure but. Maybe a slightly shorter exposure to give the water some texture.

I always convert such photographs to b&w, to compare but as you say the azure colour of the water is lovely.

Cheers.

Thanks Phil.

Andy the water wasn't flat calm, there were a few waves rolling in that tried to get me. I have longer exposures where the water is that white smoky look, but they're all OOF!
I was using the Hitech ND 10stopper so I think it added a slight colour cast, which helped with the colour of the water. The different colours give a textures feel to me :)

hi marsha - that looks a really lovely spot... dreamers bay indeed.

Lovely light on the rocks - the edit is an improvement although the original wasn't bad.. The movement / stillness in the sea, as well as the awesome colour really adds an extra dimension to the shot.

Only thing buggin me is the main rock being close to the one behind it..... what happens if you step left to make the main one become in a triangle with the two behind it?? (how wet do you get?? :)) Here's what I think it could look like. :D

Hey Marsha :)

Loving that long exposure, I'd also like to see a bit more in the foreground, shame you couldn't go just right a little more, although I see what you were doing with the biggest rock on both the 1/3 & 1/3 lines, the combination you have of the smooth tumbled rocks and silky blue water is very nice (y)
