WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Crap photos grabbed between wintery showers.

Excess has never been enough!
Although it's undeniably huge, it's very light on its feet - the CoG is very low so it balances very well.
Not exactly ideal conditions for riding it today but hoping for a few dry hours before too long! Will be taking it somewhere photogenic for some better shots soon.

WCMUoW was managing a short run out on the red monster - only 20 miles or so but better than none! Only slight hitch was the M5 being closed and a lot of the traffic from it coming down the road we were on. Did let me get used to its bulk 2 up at slow speed and discover that 3rd gear is all you need on the flat for 0-NSL (and well beyond from past experience!) and that it'll pull us both up the hill from town at 30 in top. Really needs an auto box... :D

WCMUT was being recovered from some ailment or other that just made me feel like crap for a few days. Managed to get out on the course for a 9 hole round which the 3 of us finished all square with 2 each and 3 halved - a nice, easy all square game. (Of course, I claim the actual victory since we played it without taking handicap into consideration and I get an extra 5 shots/9holes on the other 2 gents! Just don't tell 'em!) :p

My printer decided to work properly :)

Having been switched off overnight I finally turned it back on at 6pm today.

Decided to try and print a 1 page document to see if it was over its sulk.

Lo and behold - up came the printer box - told me it was ready to print and there in the box were 2 files !!

The hidden one [ the one that it referred to when it said it was in use ] was a pdf and it printed that [ an A5 booklet ] and then the single sided document I had just asked it to do.

Normal Service has been resumed - though why on earth it couldn't tell me what document was in its memory and causing it to be in use yesterday, I'll never know.

I was at very cold venue today but WCMUT was seeing a Red Kite flying over multiple times with the last time was a pair greeting in flight and then flying over approx 6ft apart @ about 30ft overhead ~ simply stunning wildlife moments :)

PS.........as working no camera :(

Computer stuff is like that. It's just biding its time before the rise of the machines and is slowly building our frustration. We're always so thankful whenm it DOES work that we'll probably even forgive it when its cables wind themselves round our necks and choke us! (Glad the issue's resolved itself. ;))

I'd always much rather miss a shot than miss a sight. Even the best photograph can do little more than stir a memory.

.

I totally agree with your last statement. :)

Received an email today to tell me that I've sold my very first photo.

Congratulations :)

Are you able to give the backstory & details???

The photo was sold via EyeEm.com on recommendations from a friend.

And here's the photo that makes me my first ever $ and no I'm not given up my day job. :)

A Walk in The Wood by Stan, on Flickr

Watching a young cat (gorgeous Bengal) pronking in the snow. He's only about 2 years old and has never seen it before!

Max is trying to catch the falling flakes as well as trying to avoid the ground (well, he was until he [literally] got cold feet!)

My 208 absolutely having no troubles during the snow this week. Even made an emergency trip to Warwickshire from Sheffield tonight in some decent snow! No problems

Went to the farmers market in Stone, only to find it cancelled, there was just a single stall - my favourite - tonight I will be enjoyed a superb steak and shallot pie with red wine gravy and green beans.

My car passing its MOT!

Bought a £1850 06 plate Peugeot 307 CC last April, tidy car but only do low mileage. Aside from advisories on both rear tyres and something (£100 or so on the front wheel) it sailed passed! Very surprised!

Fitting a Clio headlight bulb, after trying for 40 minutes last night as was going dark and cold and giving up, it clipped in on first attempt today...

My daughter finally getting a place of her own, picked the keys up today, now the fun begins :D

A £25 voucher from Ocado as an apology for cancelling our order on Saturday.

No doubt only fun for you if you have trained her well.......i.e. no bags of washing and phone calls for help with household chores  ???

Being allowed home after the annual MRI scan. As expected but still a relief! Just got to wait a while for Mr Haden to have a squizz at the results and (hopefully!) pronounce me alive and well...

This ebay description on a car:

"Car does not start or turn over. Damage was done by using the windscreen wipers when the windscreen was covered in snow and ice. Wipers struggled to move and from researching on the internet I believe it has damaged the ECU"

It's got a flat Battery! I spy a bargain!

A bit further down: "Recent new battery."

*looks* The battery doesn't look that recent. In fact, what little I can see of it's casing is a little concerning.
Is the ECU under the battery by any chance?

Re: last sentence......always more to a 'simple' story than meets the eye???

There's a few cars that can drown the ECUs if the scuttle drains get blocked. That's another school boy error. How anyone designs a circuit so badly that stuck wipers can blow an ECU is beyond me. That's just idiotic.

*digs further*
It seems stuck wipers buggering Civic ECU's is a known problem.
Specialist job to fix.

Wow!!! sounds like the use of modern 'communicating' wiring looms is not necessarily a good thing if a part/function as humble as the wipers can destroy a £1300 part :( Remind to never buy a Honda.

I'm driving round in the same car at the moment, hoping to replace with a Tupe R soon.

It's very common for cars to have 'unforeseen' electrical connectivity - The Vauxhall Nova mk2 for instance you could pull out the hazard warning switch from the dash, reinsert it upside down and activate it, turning on the ignition! If you put a single filament bulb in a dual filament bulb holder in your tail lights, on a lot of cars you can end up with some funky effects. On the same Nova that effect was that you had no brake lights, but using the brake pedal also switched on the ignition. So you could scare your friends by holding your foot on the brakes, turning off the ignition and removing the key all with the engine still running! Had a Fiat Brava with a strange electrical gremlin whereby the left indicator, brake lights and heated rear screen somehow got connected, so that when you indicated left with your foot on the brake pedal, the indicator and brake light would flash alternately and the heated screen switch in the cabin would also illuminate in time with the brake light!

The Civic one would be a new one on me though! There should be no reason the Engine ECU should be affected by the rest of the car's electrical systems, if it really is true then that is a terrible design flaw. I wouldn't be surprised though, Honda do make some hefty blunders. The hassle I used to have just to get brand new outboards to start, the fix usually being a small piece of silicone tubing wedged over a bracket on the throttle linkage!

Some of those odd unforeseen "results" are just plain wierd. Talk about 'Easter Eggs', automotive use of technology has, it seems, introduced some hoolies

WCMUT?
2 nights running frogs calling for a mate, today the fish were at the surface actively looking for food.
Buds swelling on most of my Bonsai trees .....

Seem's spring is on its way (y)

WCMUT? Berkhamsted to Ferring 1 hour 35 mins ... even with the inclusion of the M25!

WCMUT was the 2 rings from Mrs Nod's Mum telling us she'd got home safely - just as it's started to snow properly here.

A new pair of toasty M & S moccasin slippers. :)

Seeing for the first time in ages a Siskin on the feeder :)

PS but the >2inches of snow have likely affected many birds feeding patterns?
