Alsjazzeras 2016 TP 52 WEEK 52 CELEBRATE/CELEBRATION ADDED

Horizontal - I like it and think it is spot on for the theme
Vast - Great vantage point for a truly vast view, shame about the blown clouds but a great shot otherwise.
Rough - What a great collection of roughness I like them all for different reasons and the group make a great piece

I'm going to agree with Calr & Andy. It would look good on the wall, and whilst all the images are strong, the central one just shades it.
I think the strong black borders really help the images stand out. (y)

Allan .... you've been busy. What a great selection of different Rough textures. (y)

WEEK 18 COVERED

Golgotha by Allan Howe, on Flickr

This is an exhibition in Chester Cathedral at the minute, annoyingly it arrived a week or so after the "spikey" theme but when the "covered" theme was announced yesterday I thought this would do it so took my camera in to work today

covered in spikes it is then

Golly this photograph really stops you in your tracks - certainly fits the theme and very well composed.

Allan, what's the story behind this one?

Can't work out if it's Jesus on a cross?

Works and on theme, I might have been tempted to get in closer, but it's a very dramatic submission.

Cheers.

That is an amazing sculpture - quite beautiful and very creative. You're right, it could have done for Spiky too but definitely on theme for Covered - well chosen.

David Mach, one of Britain’s leading sculptors and one of the most important names in international contemporary art, will see his monumental sculpture Golgotha installed in Chester Cathedral.

Golgotha will be situated in the South Transept where Mach’s shocking and contemporary depiction of the crucifixion will contrast starkly with the cathedral’s 14thC surroundings. Such is the scale of the installation that a specialist team are estimated to take five days to delicately manoeuvre the enormous pieces into place.

David Mach says, “Golgotha is my largest coat hanger piece to date, made for the original Precious Light anniversary show in 2011. I wanted this sculpture to be dramatic. It is an epic, violent scene. So the sculpture needed to have as much pathos as possible. I extruded the coat hanger hooks outward to reflect that and to me they seem to capture the agony of the moment.”
The sculpture is available for sale at a cost of £1,200,000.

That sort of explains what it is more info on Chester cathedrals website can't seem to link to it, don't know why :(

Have added some more on Flickr

Excellent find there Allan, works well for the theme and well shot.
I like the way the bottom of the background is plain black which contrasts with the architecture of the Cathedral behind.

Oh I think you'd need a pair at least :D

Good spot Al, nicely captured.

Great picture and so good for the theme.

Thanks

You get the set of three for that, you are tempted now aren't you all of a sudden it seems a bargain

Very striking sculpture and photo. Makes me want to go and see the whole thing.

Rough - wow very striking (both the sculpture and your photo) it particularly stands out against the black background

Vast - That’s a gorgeous view with lovely sky and puffy clouds!

Rough - Wow, what a good collection. Any one of them could have been lovely as a standalone. :)

Covered - Wow, striking picture and a bit scary, too. I think you’ve composed it well.

That is a great selection of textures Allan, not sure if you moved them around at all, but the sit well as they are very randomised, liking that they are all different colours but similar tone/boldness (y)

Thanks, played around with the positioning a little

A very striking image for covered Allan

Thanks

Allan, I'd like to see more of the spiked cross, though provoking image

Only the figures are spiky, there are some more on flickr

WEEK 19 COLOURFUL

KAWS by Allan Howe, on Flickr

Taken at Yorkshire sculpture park, a piece by an artist called Kaws, its a detail of a large outdoor black sculpture made of wood, had to increase the saturation slightly to bring out the reflection of the surrounding area

Another interesting piece of artwork Allan .. especially given the use of wood as the medium ... I like it. Not sure the subject shouts Colourful although black is a colour and not just the absence of reflected light (imo) and I do see colour in the reflections.

Hi Allan, sorry for the delay in catching up.

Covered is certainly that and a very thought-provoking image (and sculpture, I'm sure). With the background you've chosen and DOF it feels quite busy/complex but in some ways that plays to the point of the image, keeping the viewer looking and guessing what's going on. Intriguing at the very least! Well captured technically.

Colourful - I really like this for the theme as it obviously is, without being in any way stereotypical. Nicely taken (was it just a bright sky behind?) and great composition... I like this one a lot (y)

I refer the honorable gentleman to his comments on the discussion thread :D
Thanks for looking Carl

Apology accepted, the sculpture for colourful was shot on a very hot and hazy day there was quite a bit of blue sky about but obviously not behind this I do have some more of the artworks where the sky is blue behind them but none of them worked for me in the same way this did not had a proper look through them all yet

Hi Allan,

Love your colorful image, really like the contrast and the light reflections on the sculptures.

Thanks

Ha ha - quite right Allan. I really do think b&w is the way to go for this theme - it would be novel and a challenge if nothing else but I do very much agree with the thoughts behind that quote in the discussion thread. In the end, I took the easy path having failed miserably with my other plans and posted the water splash. I much prefer the more subtle approach, like yours for instance, where the colour (non-black) content doesn't smack you in the face. I'm determined to keep trying ... it keeps me occupied. :)

Hi Allan ....that looks another fabulous sculpture, it would be good to see one of the whole thing. At first I thought B&W :( I know there's an argument for it but it just not my own perception of colour. Anyway I zoomed in as I usually do, and it actually has a lovely iridescent sheen to it that is really quite lovely, very nice indeed.
