The lomo effect on the #1 image has changed the exhast tone slightly, but I feel it adds to the charmHi Tim. As you say, the Smoothing effect is more noticeable in the earlier edit and the white of the exhaust is good too. I sort of se what you mean about the balance and sky but neither detracts from the image and so on balance, the earlier edit is my preferred version of the two.
Cheers EmmaI think the processing on the first suits the shot well and the LE effect on the steam stands out better.
It's not quite got the impact of some of last year's long exposures though. Also, the crop is too tight at the front on the earlier edit, caused by having to crop out a nasty piece of fencing and the rotation I needed (due to the makeshift 'tripod' (random post) I was using to steady the camera.Yay
The second for me too Tim, and TBH you could crop the signal, but I think it's all part and parcel of it
It was lomo not cross-processing (though you're right, I did play with that effect too, but felt this was better). The return of the train I am not the biggest fan of cross processing but in this case it does work better than the second one, nice work on the steam too
The signal on top of the loco's cab? I did ponder editing it out, but decided to leave it in, as it was there. It certainly worked in conjuntion with the other signal in #2, but the rest of that shot did work so well (imo).Like them both Tim, but think the 1st for me, maybe get rid of the signal though
You may have to wait a couple more weeks for some more. The next one I can get to is the one I'm working at, the Mid Hants one 17-19 Feb. I'm hoping for good weather on the days I'm not workingWoohoo, the trains are back!
The second for me too, and with a much tighter crop.
Cheers Foggy, yes, I agree.I prefer the first to the earlier edit, I think the darker train loosing some of it's detail focuses you more onto the steam.
I spent ages playing with the rotation, you could be right, but the signal is vertical. When I straightend the smoke deflectors, the buffer beam looked wrong, so I settled on what you see here.
#1 for me ... the cross processing and the tighter crop adds oomph .... could be rotated 1° CCW.
Fitting the theme? Oh no no no, we don't go for that. Mind you this is far less of a shoe horn than some from my past couple of years (and dare I say it, last week's shot )Looks totally pro, well done! #1 for me, mainly because of the dulled out colours fits the scene more in my opinion. Trains are always great subjects too. Doesn't quite fit the theme for me but I can kind of see it.
Cheers DK, those were my thoughts too. Yes, it's the first actual locomotive, however there was a little bit of track in week 0.Hmmmmmmmm I think I'm with you on the first image of the two as a whole, as yes the sky is not kind and I prefer the wider space on the left hand side, and if I am correct the first train of the year too
Thanks Stan. Those were all my thoughts too. And I've enjoyed mucking around with the effects to give some of my shots a vintage look.Always like your train shots. Prefer the first one with better composition and fewer distractions. I also like the slight vintage look of the image.
I did ponder cloning it out, but zoomed in, you can see it's a bird, so I left it.Comfort - is a nice cute image and good choice of processing.
Hairy - I love this lovely colours in the sky, crit wise id be tempted to clone out the little bird flying in the sky as to me it just looks like a small black dot.
Smooth - as always a good photo of a train, not sure I'm seeing smooth in it tho
There may be one or two shots using this approach in my photostream previously (albeit longer exposures than this).I like the choice of processing on the first one, that and the crop work for me. I wouldn't have thought about a longer exposure smoothing out the steam but it works well.
#2 is a much closer representation of the real thing, #1 is an artistic interpretationI like the second one aswell, the green seams a bit dark to me, but then the closest I have been to a loco like that is Hornby!
Ah haaaa yes, A locomotive not a trainCheers DK, those were my thoughts too. Yes, it's the first actual locomotive, however there was a little bit of track in week 0.
...
I agree, the smoothed exhaust is better, but the composition isn't so pleasing to my eye.Second for me too. Shows the smooth steam better even tho the sky is not great
Cheers Mark. I was worried we wouldn't see you back this year!Hi Tim
I've finally got round to commenting on images!! Sorry I'm late to the party
Song/Lyrics - I really like it its a bit of fun (and for me that's what the 52 challenge should be) I really like the cross processing (another thing I want to have a go at - that list keeps getting longer!)
Order - A great take on the theme I prefer the original edit as it feels a little warmer.
Comfort - This made me smile great fun image I like to processing
Hairy - A different take on the theme (why is it everyone else has these ideas!) love the colours in the sky.
Smooth - And the real LC2 is back what a brilliant image the processing really adds to the drama of the image.
It fits the theme, but could be a great deal better. But PABD.It made me smile, very apropos take on the theme
I feel your pain with the stacking, I have tried and failed a few times.
Having seen results of stacking though, it is something I would like to master. Still, that's what the 52 is for.It has to be said stacking is a real pain, i use PS if I attempt it at all got to say I don't often way too much faffing about
On theme mineral wagon and I think it looks fine
I may have some around with coal dust in (the image is larger than 1-2-1).The only stacking I've tried was in Lightroom. I didn't change the aperture but used manual focus to focus on different points...it was also a total mess! I've got some time off work soon, I'll maybe try to find out more. That's a nice little waggon...I'm dying to put some mini coal bits in it!
A bit of a boring shot though. If it had been a first (but successful) attempt at stacking I would have been much happier than simply a long exposure, small aperture shot.Keep persevering with the stacking Tim, it does generate some really sharp images - I am quite taken with it and more often than not apply it for indoors. Nothing wrong with the Mineral Wagon .... in fact quite like it particularly as it looks suitably "distressed".
Cheers Jill. #1 smooth is my fav too.Whoo hoo a train
#1 Smooth for me Tim. Love the Lomo effect and 10/10 for persevering too
It's not a whole train (oops, chuckle). It's not a train but at least a wagon...
For focus stacking I shoot tethered with Helicon Remote which makes it very easy, but I do have a proper macro lens.
Not sure I've actually got any coal at home! What a pity you didn't put some coal in your truck, it seems to be running on empty.
Cheers. It wasn't quite what I was after, but it's not bad.I think a PABD can be very handy some times, think you pulled it off well
Bright green is better than the tableclothMineral - lovely little coal truck, id like to see some little mini coal bits in it, sharp where it needs to be, not to sure on the bright green bg tho.
Ta Mr @d00dwoot woot .... works for me ... and I like the simple solid green
I did enjoy the processing.A shoehorn worthy of master @Cobra. It's a lovely little truck and I like the vibrant red, nicely lit and processed
Love it Tim, a Whole lot of editing Great truck and editing
Not a word I'd often use to describe a troublesome truck.cute
