I think this really suits the square crop with the off centre sails. You've squared up your verticals and horizontals perfectly too (y)

Thank you Bebop, lucky the windmill is just round the corner from us :)

Hi David, great start to your 52.

Before I start, please keep in mind I don't really know what I'm talking about :), feel free to ignore and it's all meant constructively, and everything is in the eye of the beholder yada yada.

Anyway, personally the branches to the bottom right detract for me, and as I assume cutting down the tree would probably be frowned upon, I wonder if you could get a higher vantage point where these would not be in the way.

Also there are some white elements top right on the sails, I assume reflection from the sun you can do nothing about, for me ideally they would not be there, I wonder if you could reshoot at another time of the day?

Good luck for your 52.

Al

Thanks for the good feedback and points AL, I took a few today front and back. Flats both sides hence the crop plus trees too. Thank you again :agree:

Sharp subject, clean blue background, I suspect this would also work well on instagram as even a thumbnail would catch your eye.
(y)

Thank you Tim.

Hi David and good luck with your 52's that's a perfect choice for the topic, beautiful clear blue sky against those sails.
Thank you for the kind words Susie :)

I've never heard of that song, but I like the photo. Well composed, and nice contrast against the deep blue sky.

We must be around the same age as I have heard the song, very popular it was and still is, Noel Harrison. Yes! onto the photo love blue sky makes a perfect background. The windmill stand very proud as you should be in taking the photo.:)

That black on blue works well, I loved the Thomas Crown Affair!

Nice having it local, do you have any wider shots of it? I think this close a crop would suit square with the sails bang centre or much wider to show more sky. On theme and nice match to the song.

Thank you, I do have a couple from yesterday, I will put one uncropped shot in a post just to show why it was cropped so tight, at the moment here we can`t see a thing because of very thick fog.

What a sky to set off those wonderful sails - I would like to see a bit more of the building I think, but great work with the verticals and horizontals.
Thank you Emma, I put another view of it in the gallery.

I do like an old windmill, and what an interesting glimpse we have of one here !!! - the windmill part itself is set off really nicely against the clear blue sky, a nice choice for the theme :)

Thank you DK for the nice words :)

Welcome along to the 52 challenge, image is bang on for the theme, the clarity in the sails is really good.
Thank Mandy, I am really looking forward to trying my best to finish it too.

Nice start to your 52 project, David. The shot fits the song perfectly. Agree with what Al commented but there's not much you can do with the branches apart from spending the time to clone them out.
Thank you Stan, I am hoping I get better at using the clone tool soon.

Hi David and welcome to the Pleasuredome :runaway:

Agree that it would make a great Instagram shot. And yes, trees, lamposts, road signs etc can be a bugger and that tree would be a nightmare to clone out.

Thank you, I might try and have some fun to clone out that tree :)

Hi David, not much to add but I agree with previous comments, a good start to your 52.
Thank you, I am looking forward to Day 1 too :)

Welcome to the 52, Dave :) You're off to a good start with this one; I like the details of the sails against the strong blue sky and the square crop is a good choice (y)
fits the theme, the tree is a little distracting but i recon impossible to clone out  good start to your 52
Thank you both :)
